UMD Colony to Host White Oak Middle School

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 26, 2013

COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND – On Wednesday, March 27, 2013 the Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. colony at the University of Maryland will be partnering with the Latino Student Union to host students from area schools.  The “Guiando al Futuro” (Guiding the Future) event will invite 50 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students to the university where members of the two university organizations will give a tour of the campus, have a conversation about the importance of an education and implement dynamic activities to interest ESOL students to pursue a post-secondary education.

Some of the members of the university organizations are graduates of the ESOL Program and understand the challenges that students face when coming to a new country.  The members of the university organizations hope to empower the ESOL students and motivate them to do well during their public school career.  The members of the university organizations will show ESOL students the many aspects of campus life ranging from studying to participating in student groups.

Apart from participating in the campus visit, students will participate in a goal setting activity that will spark an interest to start setting educational goals to achieve their full potential.
