I, Director of Community Development, am reaching out today to remind brothers of some guidelines as communities mobilize across the country to protest the actions of ICE. We are proud of our membership and entity organizations that choose to live our storied legacy of civic engagement and the empowerment of identity and equality. Whether you choose to engage individually or as an entire chapter please keep the following items in mind:
First and foremost, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. supports the free speech of all our members, and our members can participate in actions on an individual private basis in the manner that most aligns with their values unrelated to the national organization. However, as Lambda Theta Phi, we do have control over the use of our fraternity image, letters, monikers, branding, etc. at these events. To maintain good standing as a 501(c)7 organization, there are restrictions placed upon us as it relates to political engagement.
To this end:
Members can participate in demonstrations with our letters so long as it is a humanitarian cause.
Members can participate in demonstrations that are non-partisan.
Members and entities cannot endorse any political party or political candidates.
In recent months, members and entities have been approached to sign solidarity letters or other written statements.
Here are the guidelines when considering participation:
No entity is to write and/or publish their own written statement on behalf of the Fraternity or their specific entity without prior written approval from the National Board.
Entities can sign on to solidarity letters – so long as it does not contradict already existing statements and policies of the Fraternity.
Entities will need National Board approval to post from their entity accounts any solidarity letters or written statements. The National Board may request the written statement and require edits for it to be posted.
Members are not barred from sharing and posting written statements from their personal accounts.
In collaboration with the Lambda Theta Phi Foundation, the deadline to collect donations for our Stand with Immigrants campaign has been extended to March 31, 2026. Brothers, entities, and community supporters can donate to this campaign. Proceeds will go to the National Immigrant Justice Center. We encourage our membership to use their voice and engage in action safely. The National Board is here to safeguard membership as much as possible. Above all, we stand to be stewards of our entire organization and ensure we maintain our good standing as a 501(c)7.
If you or your chapter would like to discuss an event or want to work collaboratively, please do not hesitate to reach out to the National Director of Community Development, Miguel Guevara, .
Fraternally,
