Greater Washington Lambdas Join Forces with Arlington Public Schools on Minority Boys’ Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, April 27, 2013 the Greater Washington Area brothers of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. will be partnering with Arlington Public Schools’ (APS) Office of Minority Achievement to host “The Color of Leadership Conference” at George Mason University. The conference will bring together 200 African American and Latino middle school boys for a day full of college and career planning, leadership development, and mentorship. Throughout the conference, students will have the opportunity to interact with Fraternity members and other minority male leaders from Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia by participating in workshops, group mentoring sessions, and inspirational addresses.

Apart from participating in a minority Greek-lettered organization showcase, leading small groups of students as college and professional mentors, and facilitating a variety of workshops, the Brothers will also be serving as consultants instructing students how to formally tie a necktie. Each boy will have the opportunity to select one tie, made available through a generous contribution from Macy’s, and will receive personal coaching on how to properly use and tie their newly acquired neckties.

Fraternity members are proud to serve as a partner in this effort to help motivate and inspire minority boys to continue their education to become effective leaders in their communities. This partnership signals one of many upcoming initiatives that are part of an organizational agenda to provide academic and leadership support through service in the Greater Washington Area.
