PARSIPPANY, NJ — In early 2016, Lambda Theta Phi launched the #Lambdas4Reform Initiative to raise awareness around educating others and our community around comprehensive immigration reform.
This past summer during the 2016 National Convention, Lambda Theta Phi passed a resolution, presented by Founding Father Agustin Garcia, that expressed disapproval in the Supreme Court’s decision in U.S. vs Texas, which focused on Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). BE IT RESOLVED that Lambda Theta Phi, and the delegates present at the 2016 National Convention in Miami Beach, FL representing Latin@ college students and alumni from over 140 American institutions of higher education; professions as diverse as the arts, sciences, business, engineering, education, medicine and law; and brothers with political affiliations that span beyond the Democrat/Republican and liberal/conservative partisan binaries voice disappointment and disapproval with the Supreme Court and U.S. Congress’ inability to consider and/or pass common sense immigration reform measures.

Additionally, National Director of Collegiate & Academic Affairs Sergio Hernandez and Founding Father Agustin Garcia brought a social media advocacy campaign to publicly support undocumented students with many brothers participating during the conference. The photo album from this campaign can be found online at lambd.as/supportdacastudents.
As we begin Spring 2017, we know that in our current political climate, the executive order on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), may be in jeopardy of being taken away from many of our brothers and family members.
More information on DACA and DAPA can be found below:

As Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. continues to move forward in developing and supporting different initiatives around Immigration Reform, which is central to our Founding Mission, Purpose and Values as a National Organization, we encourage all of our advisors, educators and supporters to encourage our local entities to participate in future #Lambdas4Reform initiatives on the local campuses.
Our next initiative in April 2017 is quickly approaching. Lambda Theta Phi will join with the Sisters of Lambda Theta Alpha for a “Lambdas on the Hill” Day from April 26-27, 2017 where our members will learn more about the important issues confronting our Latinx communities and the priorities of our congressional leaders in Washington, DC. Our members will also have a chance to meet with congressional leaders and/or staff members to share their stories and experiences with being a college student today.
If you should have any questions or if one of our local entities is interested in developing an initiative, please contact the National Director of Community Affairs Roberto Orozco at .
