Lambda Theta Phi and Brothers Recognized by Kean University

PARSIPPANY, NJ – Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Incorporated has become the first Latin Greek letter organization to be attributed by the institution where it was founded.

On January 18th, 2010, the Kean University Foundation honored Lambda Theta Phi with three tribute plaques on the campus of Kean University. The tribute plaques promote the historical significance of Lambda Theta Phi being the first Latin fraternity in the country.

Among the many guests who attended the ceremony were Kean University President Dr. Dawood Farahi, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez and Kean Alumnus and Founding Father Agustin “Gus” Garcia. The plaques will be placed in Willis Hall-Room 400, the room the Fraternity was created, the Kean Alumni House and Department for Institutional Advancement.

In addition, the Lambda Theta Phi Foundation and Kean Foundation will collaborate on the creation of three $1,000 scholarships for Kean University. The three scholarships will be named in honor of Lambda Theta Phi Fraternal Father Dr. Cayetano J. Socarrás, Lambda Theta Phi Brother U.S Senator Robert Menendez and Lambda Theta Phi Founding Father Agustin “Gus” Garcia. Eligibility for the scholarships will vary between the scholarships, but will be open to all Kean University students.

Founded in 1975 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. is the first and largest nationally recognized Greek-letter organization founded as a Latin Fraternity. The membership of Lambda Theta Phi is open to all college men who support its values of scholarship, respect for all culture, community service, and the advancement and fair treatment of Latinos. Lambda Theta Phi was the first Latin Fraternity to be recognized by the North- American Inter-Fraternity Conference (NIC), is a member of NALFO, and has over 100 entities in: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
