PARSIPPANY, NJ — Lambda Theta Phi announces the departure of Byron Bustos as Executive Director of the Fraternity. Director Bustos has served the Brotherhood for five years as the second employee of Lambda Theta Phi, and has been instrumental in facilitating the Fraternity’s business processes, relationships and national programming. His work as the first point of contact for Brothers and fraternal partners has been critical to the functions of the organization, and his presence will be sorely missed.

Director Bustos originally crossed at Omicron Chapter in the spring of 1997. Byron has served as a founding brother and president at Lambda Gamma New Jersey Alumni Chapter, New Jersey Sector 4 vice president, national president and the first chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was also the first recipient of a scholarship from the Lambda Theta Phi Foundation and was awarded Professional of the Year in 2004.

During his term as president, the Fraternity experienced a massive overhaul and modernization in the way it functioned, including: the development of the Administrative Policy Manual (and the organization of most of the Fraternity’s policies and procedures); the Board of Trustees; the National Trust Fund; the executive director position; professionalization of national conferences and conventions; standardization of protocols and traditions; enhanced posture in national councils; and much more.

After his term as national president, Director Bustos served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and helped transition in the first executive director, Gary Ballinger. After one year, Director Ballinger resigned due to family issues and Director Bustos was asked to take on the executive director position. He then began his service to the Fraternity and three national executive boards.

Although Director Bustos was only working part-time for Lambda Theta Phi, he has managed to contribute far more than was ever expected of him, providing the stable backbone for the Brotherhood through many significant transitions, and sage advice to many National Board members.

In addition to his many and significant contributions to Lambda Theta Phi, Director Bustos also works full-time as an auditor for the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, serves as Board President for Passaic Public Schools, and is the father of two amazing children with his wife Jeanette.

Although Byron Bustos will always be a brother of Lambda Theta Phi, he has now chosen to pursue other endeavors that will positively impact his family and the Latino community. Byron Bustos is a man who truly exemplifies the meaning of “Chivalry Above Self.” The National Board wishes Executive Director Bustos the best of luck and expresses its most sincere gratitude for his time, energy, creativity and undying love for Lambda Theta Phi.

Executive Director Bustos’ resignation was effective on July 1, 2014. The National Board has appointed Vice President Jarrod Cruz (FB Gamma Gamma, Spring 2002) as Interim Executive Director while the board conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
