PARSIPPANY, NJ — On April 10th, 2014 Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. received news that one of its own had passed away when a charter bus collided with a FedEx freight truck on Interstate 5 North in Northern California. Brother Arthur Arzola of Beta Kappa Chapter at California State University – San Bernardino served as an admissions counselor at Humboldt State University and was on a trip to Humboldt State with Latino Students from Southern California to promote higher education when the bus unexpectedly collided with a FedEx tractor-trailer and burst into flames killing 5 students and 5 adults. Brother Arthur Arzola was severely burned in the accident and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center, where he passed away.

Brother Arthur Arzola was scheduled to receive his master’s degree from the University of La Verne in educational counseling and PPS Program this May. He was excited to become the director of Inland Empire Future Leaders in the next few months. Brother Arzola believed wholeheartedly in access to higher education for Latino high school students and devoted his life to the cause. He will always be remembered for his passionate commitment to help low-income and first-generation students obtain that dream. He is survived by his family and wife and the many brothers and students whose lives he touched.

Memorial funds have been created by both Brother Arzola’s family and the Beta Kappa Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. If you would like to contribute to the fundraising efforts for the family of Brother Arzola, please click one of the links below.
