PARSIPPANY, NJ — Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. is disheartened by the decision to terminate the DACA program. Since the program started in 2012, it has provided hundreds of thousands of undocumented people who were brought to this country as children the opportunity to get an education and work without fear of deportation. The decision released today by the U.S. Federal Government has great implications on over 800,000 people who are part of our communities and more importantly takes away opportunities from DACAmented people from the only country they know and love.

We must unite together to RESIST stronger than we have before. Together we must fight, not only for our DACAmented friends and family, but for all undocumented people. When we use the rhetoric focused on their production, we diminish their humanization to the value placed on their labor and productivity. For those of us who have the privilege of citizenship, we urge you to use your privilege to fight for immigration reform while not risking the lives of undocumented people.

This decision leaves one viable option available, Congress, and Speaker Paul Ryan, must do their part to come together to pass the bipartisan Dream Act 2017 (S. 1615) immediately as 800,000 lives are at stake! This is a critical piece we need to come together, as a Latin Fraternity whose mission is to provide social justice for all Latinos, to contact our Congessional Leaders to support this bipartisan legislation.
