PARSIPPANY, NJ — As the first project in Lambda Theta Phi’s philanthropic and service partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the Fraternity has launched the Latino Leaders Campaign to raise funds in support of CHCI’s R2L NextGen program.

On July 30, 2014, Lambda Theta Phi signed a historic agreement with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to recognize CHCI as its national philanthropy and service partner. Through the agreement, Lambda has committed to raising $18,000 for CHCI’s R2L NextGen program in Washington, D.C., and to provide alumni mentors and undergraduate support for the Ready to Lead program occurring throughout the country.

R2L NextGen is a week-long leadership training in Washington, D.C. for 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. During the program students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of their role as engaged citizens, meet with key leaders, participate in study visits at historic sites and develop a deeper understanding of how they can affect positive change in their communities and their nation.

This program is made possible at no cost to participants with the support of founding sponsor State Farm®, as well as Southwest Airlines, the Official Airline Sponsor of CHCI’s 2014 Leadership Development Programs, and regional funders. The program is held in partnership with the Close Up Foundation. Lambda Theta Phi hopes to support seven students for the summer 2015 program.

The Brothers of Lambda Theta Phi, along with the support of its over 140 chapters nationwide, will be raising funds on campuses and online until January 15, 2015, when the Fraternity hopes to reach its goal of $18,000. Alumni and undergraduate brothers will also be contributing their service at Ready 2 Lead (R2L) events in Washington, D.C., San José, CA, Los Angeles, CA, and Miami, FL this fall.

Last year Lambda Theta Phi raised $14,332 in support of the American Heart Association.
