CARROLLTON, GA – While many brothers were busy relaxing before the beginning of the school year, brothers in Georgia were hard at work bringing Lambda to the University of West Georgia campus. On July 8, Lambda welcomed Founding Brothers Eric Alvarez, Brian Nuñez and Takeo García to the Brotherhood as they established the first Latino fraternity at West Georgia. Brother Eric Alvarez is a senior in marketing and plays golf for the University; Brother Nuñez is involved in student government as a junior studying political science; and Brother García is a sophomore in Criminology. Only Garcia and Nuñez new eachother prior to the interest group. “I had wanted to be a part of an organization since I was a freshman, so when Brian approached me about being part of the interest group for Lambda it piqued my interest real quick,” said Takeo García.
Although they just crossed, the new brothers have hit the ground running as they begin the school year and enter recruiting season. “We’re working hard to recruit guys for our next line. We’ve been planning events and we’re wearing our letters a lot to let people know we’re here,” said new brother, Eric Alvarez. The colony has already seen a high level of interest as they promote the fraternity on campus, and its status as the only multicultural fraternity on campus has helped. “We want to try to have our chapter letters by the end of this school year, which we know is ambitious, but we’re confident we can make it happen,” stated Brother Brian Nuñez. “We’ve had a lot of support from NPHC at our events, and we’re looking forward to hosting the Tennessee Sector meeting in September.”
The University of West Georgia Colony is the 118th entity established within Lambda Theta Phi, and the 4th entity in the State of Georgia. West Georgia is also the 10th entity in Tennesee Sector 1, one of the Fraternity’s fastest growing sectors with over 60 active brothers. +
