For the past several days, people in Cuba have protested various issues including the mismanagement of public funds, food shortages,  lack of access to medical care; which has been exacerbated by the COVID pandemic, local government neglect, and international sanctions. This humanitarian crisis has led to the largest series of protests in Cuba in the last sixty years. The Cuban people deserve to be free from corruption within government systems. They have a right to hold their government accountable and a right to self-determination without fear of violent consequences, as all nations should. We condemn the police brutality in Cuba as we would at home or anywhere else in the world. Their government should be listening to the demands of its people, not meeting them with repression or with disregard to legitimate grievances.

Lambda Theta Phi stands with our Cuban Brothers & the Cuban people in their demands to their government for greater access to food, basic human rights, economic opportunity and the urgent need for effective COVID-19 vaccinations. We urge the public to be wary of misinformation circulating news sources and to center Cuban voices.

En la unión está la fuerza, que viva el pueblo Cubano.
